Often, when a woman is involved in an intense, passionate relationship she feels weak, fragile and vulnerable. Yet, the experience of falling in love involves the combination of risk and vulnerability, which eventually will take her where sheneeds to go and will in time, strengthen her.

Rose: H.D. refers to herself as being “a petal with light equal on leaf and under-leaf”.I used the image of a rose because it is perceived as delicate and fragile, and yet it is actually quite strong and hardy. She says that she thought herself fragile. The use of the word thought expresses that she knows, on some level, that she is quite strong.
